In my opinion, Ksamil is really nice to visit for a day trip or maybe one or two nights, but that would probably be the maximum for me. I personally wouldn't stay there for a whole week because there isn't enough to do to keep you busy for that long.


If you're not really into partying, Ksamil might not be the place for you if you're looking for a longer stay. Of course, you don't have to party to enjoy Ksamil — I went there myself without partying and still enjoyed it.


Ksamil is very pretty and sits right along the coast. The sunsets are beautiful, and the water is obviously one of the main attractions. However, there isn't a huge amount of things to do, so I would personally recommend it more as a short stop rather than a full-week destination.

Ksamil is mostly known for its beaches and beautiful coastline, but there are also some really interesting places nearby that are worth adding to your trip.

01 — ANCIENT CITY

Visit the ancient city of Butrint!

If you're staying in Ksamil, one of the things I would definitely recommend doing is visiting Butrint. It's only a short drive from Ksamil, so it's an easy trip to add to your day.

Butrint is an ancient archaeological site with ruins dating back to the Greek and Roman periods. You can walk around the old city and discover the ancient theatre, ruins and old buildings while being surrounded by beautiful nature.

I personally think it's a great option if you want to do something different from just spending the day at the beach. Butrint is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the combination of the ruins, greenery and water makes it a really beautiful place to explore.

Getting to Butrint from Ksamil is actually really easy.

You can take the same public buses that come from Sarandë and continue on to Butrint. You’ll see the public bus stops along the main road in Ksamil, so you can simply hop on one of the buses heading in that direction. To get back, you just do the same thing and take the bus back toward Ksamil. It’s a very easy and convenient option if you don’t have a car.

💧 DAY TRIP

The Blue Eye

If you have extra time around Ksamil, the Blue Eye is another completely different experience from the coast.

The Blue Eye, or Syri i Kaltër, is one of those places I would consider adding if you have more time than just a quick beach stop. Instead of another afternoon beside the sea, you get to head inland and see the striking blue spring surrounded by greenery.

What I like about having something like this on a Ksamil itinerary is that it breaks up the trip. Ksamil is very much about the sea, swimming and beaches, while the Blue Eye gives you a completely different landscape.

My tip: If you're only in Ksamil for one or two days, I would prioritize the coastline and Butrint first. If you're staying longer or travelling around southern Albania, then I would look at adding the Blue Eye.
🏖️ BEACHES

The Beaches Around Ksamil

The beaches are obviously the biggest reason people come to Ksamil, but I don't think every beach gives you the same experience.

When I think about Ksamil, the first thing that comes to mind is the water. The colour can be incredibly clear and turquoise, and there are lots of little bays and beaches around the area.

At the same time, I think it's important to know what you're getting into. Some of the most popular parts of Ksamil can become very busy during July and August. Beach clubs and paid sunbeds take up a lot of the shoreline in some areas, so the experience can feel very different from the quiet photos you may have seen online.

That doesn't mean I would avoid Ksamil. It just means I would explore instead of staying at the exact same beach every day. If one beach feels too crowded, there are other areas around Ksamil and along the coast that can give you a quieter afternoon.

Pulebardha Beach

Pulebardha Beach is one of the places I would look at if I wanted something a little removed from the busiest part of Ksamil. It is a smaller, more rustic beach, with clear water and a different atmosphere from the main Ksamil beaches.

The beach is mostly pebbly rather than a wide stretch of soft sand, so I would keep that in mind. It is more of a place I would choose for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the scenery than for a big beach-club day.

My tip: If your idea of a perfect beach day is a towel, clear water and a quieter setting rather than music and rows of sunbeds, I would put smaller beaches like this on your list.

Ohana Beach Bar

If you want something more social and organized, Ohana Beach Bar is another type of beach experience you can find around Ksamil. It combines the beach with a place to sit, eat and have a drink, so it works well if you want to spend several hours in one spot.

This is the kind of place I would choose when I want more than simply putting a towel down and swimming. The atmosphere is different from a quiet little cove, and that can be exactly what some people are looking for.

One thing I would always do in Ksamil is check the current beach prices before settling in for the day. Prices for sunbeds, umbrellas, food and drinks can vary depending on the location and the season.

🚤 ON THE WATER

Explore the Ksamil Islands

If you only have one day in Ksamil, I would seriously consider spending part of it on the water rather than staying on the busiest mainland beach all day.

One of the things that makes Ksamil different from many other beach destinations in Albania is how close the little islands are to the mainland. Seeing them from the beach is one thing, but getting out on the water gives you a completely different view of the coast.

Boat trips can be a fun way to combine sightseeing, swimming and snorkeling in the same afternoon. You can look around the coastline, stop in quieter areas and spend some time in the water instead of being tied to one beach.

There are different types of boat experiences available, from smaller boats to faster trips around the islands. I would compare what is included before booking rather than automatically choosing the first option offered to me on the beach.

If I only had one day

If I only had one full day in Ksamil, I wouldn't spend the entire day moving between crowded mainland beaches. I would start with a swim, explore a little in the morning and then look at doing a boat trip around the islands.

That way you get to experience the famous water without feeling like the whole day was spent sitting on a sunbed.

My tip: Bring whatever you need to be comfortable on the boat, including water, sun protection and something to keep your phone safe from splashes. Also check exactly where the boat leaves from and what stops are included before you pay.
❤️ MY EXPERIENCE

The Part of Ksamil I Remember Most

For me, travelling isn't only about checking attractions off a list. Sometimes the people I meet are what make a place memorable.

One of my favourite things about my time in Ksamil was staying at Brothers of the World Hostel. I met some of the most amazing people there(including my boyfriend), and honestly, that became a big part of what I remember about Ksamil.

That's something I think is worth mentioning if you're travelling alone or you enjoy meeting people while you travel. A destination can look incredible in photos, but the people you meet can completely change how you experience it.

For me, the social side of staying somewhere like a hostel can make a short stay feel much more memorable. I wasn't in Ksamil because I needed to party every night, but I still wanted to meet people, go out, explore and have those spontaneous conversations that you don't really get when you stay somewhere completely isolated.

My personal recommendation: If you're travelling solo and want to meet people, I would look at staying somewhere social rather than choosing accommodation based only on having the nicest room. My experience at Two Brothers Hostel was one of the highlights of my time in Ksamil.
🍴 EATING & EVERYDAY LIFE

Eating, Prices & The Reality of Ksamil

Ksamil can be presented online as a perfect little Mediterranean paradise, but I think it's more useful to talk about what the destination actually feels like.

There are plenty of restaurants around Ksamil, including seafood, Mediterranean food and casual places where you can stop for something quick. I would not assume that every restaurant has the same prices, though. The location and the type of restaurant can make a noticeable difference.

The same goes for the beach. If you're planning to spend the entire day using paid sunbeds and ordering drinks at a beach club, your daily budget can be quite different from someone who chooses a quieter beach and eats away from the most touristy areas.

I think this is one of the reasons it is useful to have a realistic Ksamil budget before arriving. Don't just budget for accommodation and food. Think about beach chairs, umbrellas, boat trips, transportation and the activities you actually want to do.

Is Ksamil safe?

I wouldn't personally describe Ksamil as somewhere you need to be constantly worried. Like anywhere popular with tourists, I would still use normal common sense: keep an eye on your belongings, check prices before agreeing to something and make sure you understand what you're paying for.

I also think there is a difference between being aware and assuming everyone is trying to take advantage of you. Good local experiences and genuine hospitality are part of travelling too, and I don't want to ignore that just because tourist areas sometimes have higher prices.

🌙 AFTER DARK

Ksamil at Night

The atmosphere changes once the sun goes down, especially during the main summer season.

I don't think you have to be a party person to enjoy Ksamil at night. There are restaurants, bars and places to have a drink, and the evenings can be a nice time to walk around after spending the hottest part of the day at the beach.

That said, if nightlife is a major reason you're choosing a destination, I would keep my expectations realistic. Ksamil is primarily a beach destination, and I personally wouldn't choose it solely because I wanted a huge nightlife scene.

For me, the better combination is enjoying the coast during the day, having dinner, meeting people and then seeing where the evening takes you rather than planning the entire trip around partying.

🍂 SHOULDER SEASON

Ksamil in October

October can give you a very different version of Ksamil from what you see in the middle of summer.

If you're thinking about visiting Ksamil in October, one of the biggest advantages is that you avoid much of the intensity of July and August. The beaches and streets can feel much calmer, which is appealing if you don't enjoy being surrounded by large summer crowds.

The trade-off is that October is less predictable. I wouldn't book an October trip expecting every day to feel like the middle of summer. You can still get lovely weather, but there is a greater chance of cooler or rainy days compared with the peak season.

Another thing I would keep in mind is that Ksamil has many seasonal businesses. Some beach bars, restaurants, boat operators and other summer-focused businesses may have reduced hours or close as the season winds down. So if having everything open is important to you, I would lean toward visiting earlier in the season.

Would I choose October?

If my priority was peace and avoiding crowds, I would seriously consider October. If my number one priority was guaranteed beach weather, swimming every day and having the full summer atmosphere, I would choose an earlier month instead.

Is Ksamil Worth Visiting?

This is probably the question I would ask before booking a trip, because Ksamil isn't going to be everyone's perfect destination.

For me, yes — but I would visit Ksamil with the right expectations.

If you want incredibly clear water, pretty beaches, boat trips, sunsets and a lively summer atmosphere, there is a lot to like here. The coastline is beautiful, and there is enough around the area to make a short trip really enjoyable.

Where I think people can be disappointed is when they expect a quiet, untouched beach village in the middle of July or August. Some parts of Ksamil are busy and commercialized, and the most popular beaches can have lots of sunbeds, beach bars and people.

That doesn't mean you have to spend your entire trip there. Explore different beaches, get out on the water, visit Butrint and leave some time to simply walk around and see what you find.

Personally, I would choose Ksamil for a short stay rather than a full week. I think one to three days can be enough to experience the main things I would want to see without feeling like I'm repeating the same beach day over and over.

My final take: Ksamil is one of those places where I think your experience depends heavily on how you travel. If you want beaches and don't mind a busy summer atmosphere, you may love it. If you prefer quieter places, explore outside the busiest areas and consider the shoulder season.

My Practical Ksamil Tips

A few simple things I would keep in mind before arriving can make the trip much easier.

  • Don't stay on one beach all day. Explore different parts of the coast and see what suits you.
  • Consider a boat trip. The islands and coastline look completely different from the water.
  • Visit Butrint. It's an easy way to add some history and culture to a beach-focused trip.
  • Check beach prices before sitting down. Especially if you're renting sunbeds or an umbrella.
  • Keep some flexibility in your itinerary. Weather, boat trips and seasonal businesses can affect your plans.
  • If you're travelling solo, consider a social hostel. My experience meeting people at Two Brothers Hostel made my time in Ksamil much more memorable.
  • Don't assume summer Ksamil is the same as October Ksamil. The atmosphere, crowds and number of seasonal businesses can be very different.
🛏️ WHERE TO STAY

Finding Accommodation in Ksamil

Where you stay can change the experience quite a bit, especially if you're deciding between a social trip, a relaxing beach holiday or a quieter stay.

When I choose accommodation in a place like Ksamil, I don't only look at the room. I think about what I actually want from the trip. If I'm travelling alone, being somewhere social can be much more valuable than having a huge room.

That's exactly why my experience at Two Brothers Hostel stands out to me. I met some amazing people there, and those connections became part of my memories of Ksamil.

If you're travelling as a couple or family, you may instead prefer a hotel or apartment where you have more privacy and a quieter place to come back to after the beach.

I would also look carefully at the location. Being close to the beach can be convenient, but staying slightly outside the busiest part of Ksamil can sometimes give you a different atmosphere.
